Classroom Management Sites

Schools are ramping up on the integration of 1:1 devices and searching for essential tools to manage their classroom technology resources, student work, and collaboration. Technology is ever-changing and improving; however, I've had the opportunity to use many of these in either my classroom or as an online student and you'll find my reviews of a few of the most popular below.

Multiple is possibly an option if you use Learning Management Systems. (see below)

I began the school year with Google Classroom; however, it's not as robust as I would have liked it to be for my purposes. I have a complete set of desktop Dell computers and I just received 10 tablets: 7 Samsung Galaxy Tab 4's, 1 Dell, 1 Nexus, 1 Asus from Donor's Choose and I have 1 iPad to add to the mix. I received a grant to get a universal laptop cart from IISME, a wonderful organization that provides teachers' with fellowships during the summer in STEAM and also yearlong professional development opportunities for teachers and districts. I spent my summer fellowship at Adobe Systems in San Francisco, where I worked on creating a Digital Media Tool Kit for teachers to use to integrate technology into the Common Core. They have a wonderful free resource site for teachers as well. (See Resources)

I also applied to be a ProjectLeanin teacher for my district, and became a certified Google Education Teacher, so I'm hoping to also get a full set of Chromebooks or 20 iPads, hoping for the later.

I'm excited to get started with OTUS, in lieu of Google and Edmodo. I've used Edmodo for about four years and it's a great site. I'm looking for something that's more robust for my students to work both synchronously and asynchronously, doing group research, collaborating and a place where they can also do annotations.

Otus: Mobile Learning Environment

This is a mobile learning environment for 1:1 learning that is new to the market. I met the teacher that was the designer behind this wonderful site at the Edsurge Technology Summit for Teachers November 22, 2014. Although I haven't yet incorporated this into my classroom, the usability for my students in my classroom is superior to any LMS I have used thus far in my education or career as a teacher. Designed by a teacher for teachers, it is the tool that I wish I had created and thought of so many times. Thank you Christopher Hull, you have created a wonderful environment for my students to access, collaborate with, engage in, share, discuss and create social learning and creativity. Additionally a system where teachers can take attendance, create seating charts, manage both positive and negative behavior instantaneously with one click across all classrooms for each student, organizing students and grouping students with flags for any purpose. Students can collaborate in groups and it's also integrated with Google Drive to make life easier for all.
I love this new platform and have made my decision to switch from Google Classroom to Otus and plan to use it during training PD's for my entire district. (:-)   ~Happy Teacher!

Google Classroom -          Google Classroom is new Fall 2014 and works
collaboratively with Google Apps. You can create a classroom, provide students with the code and post assignments, links and files there. Students can access and have their own copy. They can do their work online and submit it to you too with an option for resubmission.

You cannot create groups, students lockers are on Google Drive, as well as published versions of their Google App works created for easy sharing.

Collaborize Classroom

The new Collaborize Classroom allows teachers to provide a classroom platform with collaboration, easy access to lessons through an ebook and much more. Come check it out!

Edmodo - Edmodo is a Classroom learning management system which allows teachers and students to collaborate synchronously and asynchronously. Create groups, invite students and start sharing assignments, notes, quizzes, links and files. You can track student progress, grade and assign students badges. I've used this site for over two years, I highly recommend it for K-12 schools and teachers.
Students can upload links, files and add them to a virtual backpack to be accessed anywhere they have an Internet connection.

Schoolloop - Schoolloop is a classroom management system similar to Edmodo that gives students the tools they need to stay on track, and their parents and their team a way to provide support when they need it for higher student achievement.
